Youth and Environment Europe
Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) is the network of European youth environment organizations. The aim of YEE is to motivate children and young people to protect the environment and nature and to create a platform for cooperation among youth environmental organizations in Europe .
history
YEE was founded as the European branch of the International Youth Federation for Environmental Studies and Conservation (IYF) on August 3, 1983 in Stockholm . YEE's first office was in Copenhagen . YEE was founded by 15 member organizations of the IYF. Four founding organizations are still members of the YEE network today: Fältbiologerna (Sweden), Liga Ochrony Przyrody (Poland), DJN (Germany) and JNM (Belgium).
In 1990 the YEE office moved to Utrecht in the Netherlands to be closer to the affiliates in Central Europe at the time. Another YEE office existed in Malta for a few years in the 1990s in order to better serve the newly joined member organizations in southern Mediterranean Europe. In 1998 the office finally moved to Prague . In 2001 there were internal disputes and arguments in the YEE board of directors. The organization of the annual meeting almost failed because of these disputes. The financial situation of the organization was extremely strained during this time and the general secretary finally resigned from his office. Since this crisis, YEE has slowly recovered both in terms of its membership structure and financially.
Today, YEE primarily plays a role as a network for exchanging information between organizations alongside bilateral relations. The organization itself is much poorer in terms of personnel and finances than many of its member organizations.
job
The work of the organization is divided into two main areas. On the one hand, YEE supports the member organization through the exchange of information and the existing network; on the other hand, training courses are offered in, for example, sustainable development, landscape planning, ecology and economy, sustainable tourism, energy, climate change and other topics.
YEE also tries to coordinate the actions of its members and to organize its own campaigns.
YEE regularly publishes a newsletter and holds an annual meeting once a year. This annual meeting is also the general meeting.
Members
The membership structure at YEE fluctuates greatly. In addition to some established organizations, smaller or regionally active associations from the countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe are joining, but they are also leaving or remaining inactive. The following list is just a selection from a total of more than 30 member organizations that are either full members or associated .
