Hans Stosch-Sarrasani senior Born as Hans Erdmann Franz Stosch (born April 2, 1873 in Lomnitz , Meseritz district , Posen province ; † September 21, 1934 in São Paulo ) was a German dressage clown, founder and owner of the Sarrasani Circus .

Hans Stosch-Sarrasani senior was born in Lomnitz / Posen as the son of the chemist and glassworks owner Albert Friedrich Stosch. In 1888 he joined the Bavarian Wanderschauspieler Kolzer , where he is the groom to the famous dressage - Clown highly worked, as what he did in 1892 was the stage name "Giovanni Sarrasani".

From 1904, Hans Stosch added the artist name to the previous family name and from then on called himself Hans Stosch-Sarrasani, with the addition sen. to distinguish it from his son Hans Stosch-Sarrasani, born in 1897 . Worldwide guest appearances followed. In 1912 Sarrasani built the first permanent circus building in Europe in Dresden. In 1926/27 there were two giant tents for 10,000 spectators each, 800 employees, 250 horses, 100 predators, 22 elephants and 175 vehicles. In 1934 Hans Stosch-Sarrasani senior died. in São Paulo . His urn was buried in the Tolkewitz urn grove .

His son Hans Stosch-Sarrasani continued the family tradition.

On the occasion of the 60th birthday of Hans Stosch-Sarrasani sen. In 1933, the Radebeul city council gave the garden street Sarrasanis its name; In 1945 the socialist city administration reversed this. A decision to make him an honorary citizen of the city could no longer be realized due to the unexpected death of Sarrasani in São Paulo. In 1999 Radebeul remembered the circus dynasty with a newly named Stosch-Sarrasani-Straße.
