Friedrich Adolf zur Lippe-Detmold (born September 2, 1667 in Detmold , † July 18, 1718 in Detmold) was Count of Lippe-Detmold from 1697 to 1718 .

Life

Friedrich Adolf was the eldest son of Count Simon Heinrich and the Countess Amalia von Dohna - Vianen . He had nine brothers and six sisters.

Friedrich Adolf broke with the tradition of his predecessors of fulfilling his military obligations to the Reich by paying subsidies and set up his own Lippe company . This has meanwhile been expanded to include battalion strength beyond what was required by the Reich . During his reign, however, the force was not used. His followers were apparently rewarded with generous donations of goods. On June 16, 1699 he enfeoffed Frantz Dietrich Bosen with the village of Ilendorf between Pömbsen and Nieheim , with the farm at Döringsfelde, with the tithe to Wintrup and the tithe to Große Heisten. In 1712 he enfeoffed the sons of his lieutenant Johann Adolf von Schledorn with the Wickenhof in Anröchte .

In October 1698, Friedrich Adolf took the Hamburg baroque painter Hans Hinrich Rundt into his service. He painted a large number of portraits of the count's family and decorated the rooms with wall and ceiling paintings during the luxurious renovations of the residential palace.

The count was a typical baroque ruler. His construction projects overwhelmed the country's finances. The Russian Tsar Peter is said to have said to the Count on the occasion of a free shooting in Bad Pyrmont in 1716 : "Your lovers are too big for this country." His most famous project, the Friedrichstaler Canal , can still be seen in Detmold today and is a popular Sunday walk in Detmold. The Dutch hydraulic engineering specialist Hendrick Kock was responsible for building the canals. The Favorite Castle , located on the canal and part of the complex, has been used by the Detmold University of Music since 1954 . The adjoining palace garden, laid out in the English style and under nature protection, was opened to the public as early as 1919. Of the Friedrichstal gardens, only the mausoleum on Büchenberg , the Neue Krug and the Krumme Haus on the site of today's Detmold open-air museum remain . In order to give this project the right framework, the count had a cavalier's house built opposite the southern city gate, today the Hotel Lippischer Hof and a number of new houses, today's Neustadt .

Friedrich Adolf was awarded the Prussian Order of the Black Eagle in 1712 .
