Live and act

Hans Feldmeier is the son of a doctor of chemistry. From 1947 to 1952 he studied pharmacy at the University of Rostock .

Feldmeier received his doctorate in 1954 at the Rostock Institute for Catalysis Research . From 1954 he was head of the St. Georg pharmacy in Rostock, from 1961 district pharmacist of the city and district of Rostock and thus responsible for the patient care of all pharmacies in the district. From 1985 to 1989 he was director of the Rostock Pharmaceutical Center . He received the honorary title of senior pharmacist in the GDR and is co-founder and former secretary of the Scheele Society , the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional group of the German Pharmaceutical Society (DPhG). For several years he was a member of the board of the "Medical Society Rostock". He worked on various committees, including the Pharmacopoeia Commission.

Feldmeier's commitment to advising in pharmacies in the GDR was of particular importance. His lecture "The technical discussion in the pharmacy" at the meeting of the Scheele Society in 1977, which was under the topic "Pharmacist and Patient", met with a lively response. Feldmeier inspired many pharmacists, even in retirement he promoted them with devotion and skill. It is perhaps indicative of him that he occasionally spoke of the Pharmacia amabilis.

Feldmeier was the publisher of the “Rostock pictogram cards” designed with his team, which were used in 80 percent of GDR pharmacies. These cards contained a clear compilation of the advisory content for 550 medicinal products and specialties, and as a further development, they had a short pharmacology on the back. The pictogram cards were very suitable for qualifying the patient discussions. These ideas, the development of information crimes for advice, which go back to the Czech university professor Vladimir Smečka, were later continued in several publications. Such advisory aids have also found widespread use, supported by information technology.

The "Medal of Honor of the Rostock Pharmacy Industry", an award introduced by Feldmeier and other committed pharmacists in GDR times for deserving pharmacists and other personalities, was presented by him personally for many years - even after reunification . Feldmeier also published on the history of the origins of the medal of honor.

Feldmeier is married and has five children. The actress Rita Feldmeier is his daughter.

reception

On the occasion of his 90th birthday in 2014, pharmaceutical historian Christoph Friedrich ranked Feldmeier among the 15 most important pharmacists from the 18th century to modern times . He was a contemporary witness of North German pharmacy history, which he had significantly influenced. Feldmeier's descriptions were among other things the basis for Friedrich's book “The Development of Pharmacy in the GDR”.

Feldmeier achieved national media attention outside the trade press in 2012 with his finding that pork lard from a CARE package that was over 60 years old was still edible.
