Hans Fischer (librarian)

Hans Fischer (born January 19, 1859 in Bamberg ; † January 15, 1941 there ) was a German librarian.

Life

Fischer studied classical philology and archeology at the University of Munich . After his state examination in 1882, he first worked as a teacher at high schools in Bamberg and Munich.

From 1885 Fischer worked as a scientific secretary at the Royal Library in Bamberg. In collaboration with Friedrich Leitschuh he developed the extensive collection of medieval manuscripts. In 1898 he took over the management of the library, which he kept until 1924. In retirement, Fischer edited the miniature manuscripts of the Bamberg University Library and made a new edition of the Latin manuscript catalog of the Erlangen University Library. In 1928 he was awarded an honorary doctorate for this by the University of Erlangen.
