Hans Georg Bellmann (born September 25, 1911 in Turgi ; died October 26, 1990 in Wiggwil ) was a Swiss product designer and architect .

Career

After an apprenticeship as a structural draftsman in Baden , Bellmann studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin from 1931 to 1933 and then worked for Ludwig Mies van der Rohe . In 1934 he returned to Switzerland, where he worked for Wohnbedarf AG until 1938. He then worked for Leopold Boedecker for the Swiss National Exhibition in 1939 . From 1941 to 1946 he was employed by Rino Tami , Hans Brechbühler and Alfred Roth .

In his studio, which he founded in 1946, Bellmann devoted himself to the development of furniture and sanitary items. As a designer, he was a consultant for various companies, such as the kitchen manufacturer Therma . From 1948 to 1955 he taught at the Zurich School of Applied Arts , 1953/54 at the Ulm School of Design , 1958/59 at the General Trade School in Basel, 1964/65 at the University of Washington in Seattle. In particular, the support frame (1946) and the single-point chair (1952) for living space, various washbasins and sanitary appliances and the Sitwell 101 armchair (1965 for Strässle) have found their way into collections. From 1955 to 1970, Horgenglarus produced the GA chair , which the company relaunched in 2017.
