Hans Grabowski

Hans Grabowski (born May 4, 1934 ; † November 17, 2008 ) was a German engineering IT specialist. He was a pioneer of computer-aided design .

Life

Grabowski studied machine tool construction at the Magdeburg Engineering School from 1951 to 1954 and then worked as a designer. From 1961 to 1968 he studied production engineering at RWTH Aachen University . In 1972 he was in Aachen with the work "A system for technical service planning in companies with order-bound production" to Dr.-Ing. PhD. In 1971 he published the first German-language book on computer application "Computer-assisted construction" .

In 1975 he was offered the professorship for applied computer science at the TH Karlsruhe , later internationally known as the chair for "computer application in planning and construction (RPK)".

At the RPK, over 400 publications on computer application and product development were published under his leadership. Grabowski published 13 important works on the topic and supervised 125 dissertations. He has done significant research on CAD systems. In 1993 he was co-founder and from 1998 to 2002 chairman of the Berliner Kreis, a scientific forum for product development. He has received numerous awards.

On January 1, 2004, he handed over the management of the PDE (formerly CAD / CAM ) research department at the FZI Research Center for Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) to Jivka Ovtcharova .
