Johann "Hans" Josef Gruber , pseudonym Thurnhers Hannes , (* July 22, 1924 in Dornbirn ; † July 21, 2000 there ) was an Austrian entrepreneur, journalist and dialect author.

He worked as a freelancer for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation , Radio Vorarlberg , and as a well-known author of the Dornbirn dialect as well as a musician (guitar) and entrepreneur. Due to his learned job as a radio technician (later also entertainment equipment and television), which he practiced after the Second World War, he is also considered a pioneer for this technology in Vorarlberg. He also worked for a time as a major buyer for the corporate merger "Funkberater" (purchasing cooperation) in Japan.

Life

Hans Gruber was the legitimate son of Franz Gruber (born February 19, 1896 in Laupertshausen ) and Laura Karolin Gruber, née Thurnher, (born June 24, 1896 in Dornbirn), who married on August 17, 1922. The marriage had two children (sister: Gruber Margaretha Johanna, married Wolf, * June 21, 1922; † December 5, 2013). Hans Gruber attended elementary and secondary school in the Markt district of Dornbirn and, in addition to secondary school, did an apprenticeship as a radio mechanic with his father. Gruber originally wanted to be a painter. He was trained as a technician in the German Navy and was employed as a seaman, stoker and technical engineer during the Second World War (Gruber volunteered at the age of 16 ½, his father was a mechanical engineer on the SMS Prinz Eugen during the First World War ). After his ship was sunk in the Mediterranean in 1945, Gruber was briefly captured by the Americans (Italy).

After the Second World War, he worked as an entrepreneur in the radio and television technology sector. At the same time, he worked as a freelancer at ORF Vorarlberg with various areas of responsibility, initially under his real name as a musician (baroque music) and moderator (initially with contributions to the biographies of famous musicians). He was also involved in the specialist group in the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce , including as chairman of the specialist group and chairman of the journeyman's and master craftsman's examination commission.

The pseudonym Thurnhers Hannes is made up of his mother's maiden name (nee Thurnher) and his abbreviated first name Johann or his nickname Hans (= Hannes) and was chosen by him because the name Hans Gruber was too little "Dornbirnerisch" ( Dorobirarisch ) appeared.

Gruber was married and they have two children.

Several hundred radio broadcasts followed, appearances in Vorarlberg, in the neighboring German-speaking area and in Vienna in this particular genre. The last contribution before his death was “Der Teifelskrug”, a radio play.
