Hans Hartmann Freiherr von Ow-Wachendorf (born July 27, 1882 in Wachendorf near Horb am Neckar , † November 25, 1966 there ) was a German lawyer , diplomat and majorate .

Hans Hartmann von Ow-Wachendorf was born on the family estate Wachendorf in Württemberg as the son of Hans-Otto von Ow-Wachendorf and Eleonora. Born Freiin von Soden. His father was the Royal Württemberg Chamberlain and State Councilor and President of the Central Office for Agriculture. He was also a knightly member of the first chamber of the Württemberg state estates from 1876 to 1906 and a member of the Reichstag from 1878 to 1880 .

In October 1920 he married Margarethe Freiin von Hornstein, who died early. With her he had three sons: Hubertus, Manfred and Sigurd. In August 1942 he married Olga geb. Freiin Ebner von Eschenbach.

Life

After graduating from the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart in 1901, he studied law at the universities of Lausanne, Berlin, Munich and Tübingen. During his studies in Lausanne he became a member of the Société d'Étudiants Germania Lausanne . From 1905 he was a trainee lawyer in the judicial and administrative service and passed his second state examination in 1907. He then worked from 1908 as his Majesty's Chamberlain, King Wilhelm II of Württemberg .

In April 1908 he was called up to the Foreign Service (diplomatic career). He initially worked as a government assessor and as an attaché at the German embassy in London in the United Kingdom and from 1909 at the German embassy at the consulate general in Sofia in the Kingdom of Bulgaria .

In 1910 he was appointed legation secretary and sent to the German embassy in St. Petersburg in the Russian Empire . There he carried out the business of the third secretary. From 1911 he worked for the Prussian embassy in Santiago de Chile ( Chile worked), was from 1914 to 1917 German Charge d'Affaires in Montevideo ( Uruguay ), and after the Counselor was promoted, he was sent from 1917 to 1919 again to Santiago de Chille. In 1920 he was employed by Department IV, the communications department of the Foreign Office , responsible for America, Spain and Portugal and from 1921 at the German Consulate General in Trieste ( Italy ).

In 1921 he resigned from the diplomatic service and managed the family estate on Wachendorf as a majorate .
