Hans Hecker

Hans Hecker (born January 2, 1942 in Leipzig ) is a German historian and university professor.

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Essen and doing military service, Hecker studied Eastern European History , Middle and Modern History , Slavic Studies and Political Science in Berlin and Cologne . With a dissertation on Eastern Europe performances in Germany, he became in 1971 a doctorate . He then worked at the Ostkolleg of the Federal Agency for Civic Education until 1973 , after which he worked as a research assistant for Günther Stökl . In 1980 he submitted his habilitation thesis on the history of Russian historiography. From 1982 until his retirement in 2007 he was Professor of Eastern European History at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . In addition, from 1983 to 1985 he was Vice Rector for Studies, Teaching and Study Reform.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Adalbert Foundation and a member of the Foundation Advisory Board of the Martin Opitz Library in Herne . Hans Hecker is married and has two daughters.
