Life
After the journeyman's journey through Swabia, Hans Herbst settled in Basel, where he became a member of the Zunft zum Himmel . He took part in the campaigns to Pavia in 1512 and Marignano in 1515. Hans Herbst was regarded as the most important Basel painter before Holbein , whose entire religious work was lost in the Basel iconoclasm . After that he received only insignificant orders.
