Ambrosius Holbein

Ambrosius Holbein (* around 1494 in Augsburg , † after 1519 in Basel ) was a German-Swiss painter and graphic artist .

Ambrosius Holbein was a son of Hans Holbein the Elder. Ä. and the older brother of Hans Holbein the Elder J. He probably received his training in his father's workshop. From 1515 he may have been active in Stein am Rhein . His presence in Basel after 1516 can be proven, where he joined the Zum Himmel painters' guild in 1517 and acquired citizenship in 1518.
