Hans Jörg Altherr

Hans Jörg Altherr (* May 23, 1731 in Speicher ; † September 20, 1793 there ; authorized to live in Speicher) was an Appenzell master builder.

Life

The Zellweger stone palace from 1747 in Trogen AR was raised by Hans Jörg Altherr in 1788/1789 by one floor and expanded by the left (western) half to form a double palace

Hans Jörg Altherr was a son of Hans Georg Altherr, master carpenter, and Katharina Keller. In 1756 he married Anna Barbara Tobler, the daughter of Johannes Tobler, a master craftsman.

The expansion of the Speicher church in 1756 (in collaboration with his brother Johannes), various representative town houses in Speicher, the expansion of the Zellweger double palace at Landsgemeindeplatz 5/6 in Trogen (1787–1789) and two bridges near Teufen are his most important works.

Hans Jörg Altherr was one of the most important builders in Appenzell Ausserrhoden in the last third of the 18th century; In addition to the brothers Jakob and Johannes Grubenmann and Johannes Knellwolf , he was the most important Appenzell representative of wooden bridge construction .
