Hans Jacob Faber (born February 18, 1665 in Schwerin ; † November 15, 1729 in Hamburg ) was a Hamburg mayor .

Live and act

Johann Jacob Faber was a son of Gottfried Faber and his wife Gertrud, geb. Trapp. He attended school in Rostock , then went to Hamburg and traded. The wife and children of his first marriage died early. In September 1700 Faber married Maria Stockfleth, a daughter of the merchant Martin Stockfleth and his wife Elisabeth, née. Collin. In 1710 he was elected to the Senate and on July 8, 1722 he became mayor of Hamburg. Faber's brother-in-law Daniel Stockfleth became his successor in the mayor's office.

Faber's youngest son Johannes Jacob Faber (1716–1800) became a lawyer and syndic of Hamburg .

Faber promoted a. a. the musician and composer Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach .
