Hans Joachim Kujath

Hans Joachim Kujath (born May 31, 1942 in Berlin ; † March 4, 2020 in Falkensee ) was a German regional economist and has been an honorary professor at the Technical University of Berlin since 2004 .

Life

In 1970 he finished his studies in urban planning and urban planning at the Technical University of Berlin.

The study of urban and regional sociology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Faculty of Social Sciences , he graduated in 1986 with the promotion of Dr. phil. from. The topic of the dissertation was the regeneration of the city .

From 1972 to 1975 he worked as a research assistant at the Institut Wohnen und Umwelt in Darmstadt , and from 1976 to 1978 as an employee at Informatik & Organization GmbH in Rodgau near Frankfurt am Main. From 1979 to 1987 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Housing and District Planning at the Technical University of Berlin, teaching areas of infrastructure planning and planning economics . At the Institute for Development Planning and Structural Research at the University of Hanover, he worked from 1988 to 1993 as head of the department “Housing, Settlement and Regional Development”.

From 1994 to 2009 he was department head of research department I “Regionalization and Economic Areas” and deputy director of the Leibniz Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning ( IRS , since 2016 Leibniz Institute for Spatial Social Research). Since September 2009 he has been working as a senior scientist at the IRS on scientific projects and advisory tasks. His main areas of work were: economic area and economic integration analyzes , metropolitan research , European spatial development , especially Eastern Europe , regional structural and spatial development policy .

In 2004 he was appointed honorary professor at the Technical University of Berlin ( Institute for Urban and Regional Planning ) , where he worked in teaching and research until his death.

Since 2007 he has been the spokesman for the Competence Center City and Region in Berlin-Brandenburg. In 2006 Kujath became a member of the "Regional Round Table" of the "EURO-COOP" project (Regional Innovation Policy Impact Assessment). In addition, he was a corresponding member of the Academy for Spatial Research and Regional Planning (ARL) since 1998.
