Hans Kades

Hans Kades , actually Hans Werlberger , (born March 28, 1906 in Innsbruck , † 1969 ) was an Austrian writer .

Life

Kades spent his childhood in Munich and studied political science at the universities of Munich and Frankfurt am Main . He completed his studies with a doctorate . In Switzerland , where he stayed for several years as a patient in a sanatorium , Kades wrote his literary debut, the business novel Der Fremdling . After he returned to Munich recovered, his second work, Der Wolkentanz , followed, which he published in 1941.

Hans Kades also worked as a translator, so in 1944 he translated Stendhal's Über die Liebe into German and two years later published the volume Unmasking the Women with Aphorisms. One of his greatest successes was the medical novel San Salvatore , which Kades wrote during the Second World War between 1942 and 1944 and which made him known beyond the national borders when it was published in 1946. At the end of the war he alternated between Munich, Ticino and Rottach am Tegernsee . As in San Salvatore , Kades also dealt with the medical profession in numerous other novels published after the Second World War. Many of his works have been translated into several languages.

Some of his novels were made into films. The doctor's novel The Successful came in 1952 under the title The great temptation in German cinemas. Ruth Leuwerik and Dieter Borsche played in the film adaptation by Rolf Hansen . In 1955, San Salvatore from Werner Jacobs among others Antje Weisgerber and Will Quadflieg filmed in the lead roles. In March 1959, a Dutch film adaptation of Wim Bary of the novel The Successful ran under the title Hetkret van dokter Gerbrand on Dutch television.
