Hans Klakow (born July 3, 1899 in Treptow ; † October 9, 1993 in Brieselang ) was a German sculptor and ceramist .

Life

Born in Treptow near Berlin in 1899, Klakow took up an apprenticeship as a sculptor and then studied from 1919 to 1925 at the School of Applied Arts and the Berlin University of Fine Arts . He was a master student of Professor Edwin Scharff and worked for August Gaul (animal sculptor).

In 1931 he was looking for the tranquil tranquility of what was then Brieselang in order to create his sculptures far away from the hectic city bustle. Nevertheless, he was informed and interested in current trends at all times, without - like other of his artist colleagues - getting caught in their sometimes ominous vortex.

His “non-political” topics were above all the common people, especially a loving view of children, who inspired him for his work. The inspiration for his children playing, making music, crouching together was often his own three and later his grandchildren. The group of three school children from 1961 alone has been cast several times because of the naturalness of the figures and today adorns urban spaces and schools in Berlin, Erfurt, Dresden, Potsdam and of course in Brieselang as well.

His groups of animals, such as the pelicans , can still be admired on the Friendship Island today. The portal of the Oberpostdirektion in Berlin-Charlottenburg has been adorned with life-size ceramic figures since 1927.

Hans Klakow was a quiet, friendly but humorous person who was known and recognized among his colleagues and in the artists' association of the State of Brandenburg .

In 1993 his life came to an end in Brieselang at the age of 94. With the construction of the market ensemble in Brieselang on the former rubber works site, the roads surrounding the construction site were also created in 1996. One of them was named after the sculptor Hans Klakow, who lived in Brieselang for 60 years. On the occasion of his 100th birthday in July 1999, a permanent exhibition with the help of his three children and befriended neighbors, the Peschel family, was set up in his house with studio, built in 1929 and designed by himself in the street Am Wald 2a (today house number 69) .
