Hans Koolmees

Hans Koolmees (born October 27, 1959 in Abcoude ) is a Dutch composer .

Koolmees studied organ with Jet Dubbeldam at the Rotterdam Conservatory , conducting with Bernard van Beurden , composition with Klaas de Vries and electronic music with Gilius van Bergeijk . He works as a lecturer, organist and composer. His works have been performed by Oliver Knussen , Daniel Reuss , Jurjen Hempel , Ellen Corver , Lucas Vis , the Residentie Orkest , the Cappella Amsterdam , the DoelenEnsemble , the Schönberg Quartet , the Rembrandt Trio and the Nederlands Ballet Orkest .

In 1994 he received the first prize for his cantata for large orchestra in the composition competition announced by the Residentie Orkest on the occasion of its 90th anniversary. In 1999 the Theater Lantaren / Venster in Rotterdam organized a four-day festival with his music. a. his oratorio De Toren van Babel was premiered. Koolmees has been artistic director of the Doelen ensemble since 2002.
