Hans Kruus (born 10 . Jul / 22. October  1891 greg. In Tartu , Governorate of Livonia ; † the thirtieth June 1976 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian historians and politicians.

Life

Kruus studied history at the University of Tartu. He was later from 1920 to 1922 leader of the Socialist Party of Estonian Socialist-Revolutionaries ( Eesti Sotsialistide-Revolutionääride Party ). From 1931 he headed the chair for the history of Estonia and the Nordic countries at the University of Tartu . His predecessor was the Finnish historian Arno Rafael Cederberg .

Kruus served as deputy prime minister of the communist government, the Vares cabinet , from July 22, 1940 to August 25, 1940. He was also rector of the University in Tartu ( Dorpat ) from 1940 to 1941, during the Soviet occupation of the Republic of Estonia .

Kruus was also a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic .
