Hans Leitmeier

Hans Leitmeier (born October 24, 1885 in Vienna ; † June 8, 1967 there ) was an Austrian mineralogist .

Life

Leitmeier studied at the University of Graz from 1904/05 . Under the guidance of C. Doelter he worked on his dissertation "The basalt of Weitendorf in Styria and the minerals of its cavities", in 1908 he was approved. During this time he dealt with colloid chemistry . In 1916 he received the venia legendi . In the following years he was particularly interested in carbonates .

In 1925 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1929 he was extraordinary professor at the University of Vienna . In 1931 he completed Doelter's " Handbuch der Mineralchemie ". In 1938 he was removed from office because of his Jewish wife, and in 1945 he returned to the university. In 1946 Hans Leitmeier was elected a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .
