Hans Mercker

Hans Mercker (* 1940 in Edenkoben ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian , religious scholar and university professor .

Life

After school and A-levels at the Kurfürst-Ruprecht-Gymnasium Neustadt and studying theology, he received his doctorate in 1969 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich with a paper on Bonaventure published in 1971 . His habilitation thesis "Christian Weltanschauung als Problem", also submitted in Munich in 1986, was published in 1988. He was appointed professor for Catholic theology at the Institute for Catholic Theology at the University of Koblenz-Landau . In 2000, on his 60th birthday, he received a commemorative publication entitled “Search for truth - perceive reality”. He was retired in 2005.

He is honorary chairman of the Heimat- und Kulturverein in Edesheim .

On behalf of the Catholic Academy in Bavaria, he compiled a “Bibliography Romano Guardini”, which appeared in 1978, and later published Guardini's lectures on ethics and his writings on Dante's Divine Comedy . As head of the Romano Guardini archive , he recently set up a Guardini work concordance online.

In 1990 he also acted as the editor of a celebratory edition for the Catholic theologian Helmut Fox, who was also working in Koblenz-Landau, on his 60th birthday under the title “Ecumenical Living”.
