Hans Peter Ruprecht

Hans Peter Ruprecht (born March 7, 1943 in Locarno ; † September 7, 2011 ) was a Swiss politician ( SVP ). From June 1996 to summer 2008 he was a member of the government in the canton of Thurgau .

education and profession

Hans Peter Ruprecht attended primary school in Locarno and Erzenholz and secondary school in Frauenfeld. He graduated from the canton school in Frauenfeld and then completed a degree in civil engineering at the ETH Zurich, which he completed in 1969. From 1970 to 1980 he was senior manager for state roads at the Thurgau civil engineering department. In 1980 Ruprecht switched to the private sector and worked as the chief site manager at the Cellere construction company in Frauenfeld. From 1987 he was managing director and head of Cellere Thurgau and remained in this position until his election to the government council.

Political activity

Hans Peter Ruprecht started his political career in 1983 when he was elected to the municipal council of Frauenfeld, of which he was a member until 1996. In 1988 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Thurgau, where he was a member of the SVP parliamentary group. In 1987, 1991 and 1995 he ran unsuccessfully on the SVP list for the National Council. On June 1, 1996, he took up his post as a government councilor, to which he was elected by the Thurgau people in March. As a member of the government, Ruprecht heads the Department for Building and Environment and was President of the Government in the years 1999/00, 2002/03 and 2007/08. In 2007 he announced that he would no longer run in the next election in 2008. Monika Knill , Cantonal Councilor of SVP , who was elected in February 2008, will succeed Ruprecht .

Hans Peter Ruprecht became known outside the canton, among other things, because he brought the idea of ​​a canton of Eastern Switzerland back into play and represented it in interviews.

Ruprecht had been married to Heidi Ruprecht-Ruckstuhl since 1971 and had two children. He lived in Frauenfeld and was a citizen of Laupen .
