Live and act

Hans Peters was a son of the farmer Claus Andreas Peters (1825-1891) and his wife Antje, née Harz (1819-1905). The family's ancestors came from Schenefeld and moved to Dithmarschen around 1760 .

Against the wishes of his parents, Peters attended the teachers' seminar in Eckernförde from 1870 to 1873 . From 1887 to 1917 he worked as principal at the 1st boys' elementary school in Kiel. As a sideline, he taught natural sciences from 1885 to 1908 at the private preparation institute there. As a curator, he worked for the Holstein-Lauenburg teacher widow and orphan fund for more than twenty years. From 1894 to 1921 he was in charge of the Schleswig-Holstein Educational Association in the Kiel district. He was also the most important employee of the general superintendent D. Kaftan.

Peters got involved with children at risk, whom he placed in foster stations outside the city. In 1898 he worked with rescue institutions in Saxony. He wrote repeatedly in his school newspaper that the welfare legislation was poor. In 1912 he took part in the Prussian Teachers' Day in Hanover . He gave a lecture on "Basics of youth care" and received a lot of attention. Peters took over the office of church elder for many years, belonged to the representation of the parish union since 1908 and was chairman of the association of the friends of evangelical freedom .

In addition to Friedrich Junge , Peters was considered a pioneering pedagogue for science teaching. He had received the suggestions for this from Karl August Möbius and Professors Karstens and Haas. Peters dealt in particular with mineralogy and geology, about which he gave lectures, wrote essays and edited a textbook. He co-founded the Schleswig-Holstein School Museum and the Association for the Care of Natural and Regional Studies in Schleswig-Holstein , which he chaired from 1896 to 1930.
