Hans Pfeifer (clarinetist)

Hans Pfeifer (born February 7, 1934 in Obersteinbach , now part of Markt Taschendorf ; † December 2, 2019 ) was clarinetist in the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival and professor for clarinet.

Pfeifer studied piano, violin and trumpet at the Bavarian State Conservatory of Music in Würzburg , and later clarinet. In 1956 he became a member and from 1964 solo clarinetist of the Palatinate Orchestra Ludwigshafen, the predecessor of today's State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate . From 1972 to 1992 Pfeifer was appointed to the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival.

From 1979 Pfeifer was professor for clarinet at the Musikhochschule Heidelberg / Mannheim . He further developed the sound of the classical clarinet and passed this knowledge on to a large number of today's important orchestral clarinetists. Pfeifer founded the Ludwigshafen Youth Brass Orchestra in 1971 and directed it for twenty-five years.

In 1988 he was awarded the Peter Cornelius plaque of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . In 1989 he received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon for his services in the field of music care and music education.
