Hans Philipp Praetorius

Hans Philipp von Praetorius († December 17, 1732 at Kronborg Castle ) was a royal Danish major general and most recently the commandant of Kronborg.

His parents were the Danish lieutenant colonel Georg Wilhelm Pretorius († October 23, 1702) and his wife Svane von Scholten (1673-1748), daughter of Jobst Scholten . The Danish Lieutenant General Andreas August Pretorius (1683–1762) was his brother.

Life

In 1678 he became an ensign in the Lühe Company in the Prince Christian Regiment. In 1679 he became a second lieutenant, but was released in November and returned to the regiment as an ensign in 1680. In 1682 he became Premier-Lieutenant, in 1687 he was appointed Regimental Quartermaster and in 1695 the name of the infantry regiment was changed to Prince Carl Regiment. On July 23, 1701 he became a major. In the course of the War of the Spanish Succession , the 2nd Battalion of the regiment 1702 came in English-Dutch pay and came to Brabant. Praetorius fought in the Battle of Höchstädt in 1704 and was seriously injured in the leg, in 1706 he was with Ramillies and when Ostend was taken on July 8, 1706.

On January 9, 1708 he became colonel and chief of the Oldenburg battalion. In June 1709 he was taking Tournai . In 1709 he fought in the Battle of Malplaquet , in May when taking Douai . On September 9, 1711 he became a brigadier . In June 1714 the regiment returned to Denmark and became part of the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment. Praterius was appointed head of the regiment, but on March 13, 1719, he left the regiment. On July 31, 1723 he was deputy commander of Copenhagen and on July 30, 1725 as a commander to Kronborg. On April 16, 1727 he became a Knight of the Dannebrog Order and died in 1732 at Kronborg Castle .
