Hans Pohl (historian)

Hans Pohl (born March 27, 1935 in Bärdorf near Münsterberg in Silesia ; † December 10, 2019 in Cologne ) was a German economic historian . He is considered to be one of the nationally and internationally most important German representatives of the subject of economic , social and corporate history .

Life

Hans Pohl was born in 1961 at the University of Cologne with the dissertation The Relationships of Hamburg with Spain and Spanish America from 1740 to 1806 as a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1968 he also completed his habilitation in Cologne. In 1969 he was appointed to Bonn and was full professor for constitutional, social and economic history at the historical seminar of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 2000 he was retired.

Pohl has published numerous works and was among other things co-editor of the quarterly journal for social and economic history and the bank historical archive . He was the holder of several supervisory and advisory board mandates, including chairman of the scientific advisory board of Daimler AG .

In 2006 he was honored with an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of History, Art and Oriental Studies at the University of Leipzig for his investigation of the Leipzig financial center .
