Hans Scheib (cameraman)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Scheib (born July 28, 1905 in Berlin , † June 10, 1957 in Madrid ) was a German cameraman , mainly active in domestic and Spanish films.

Live and act

Scheib made his film debut in 1922 and received practical training from Arpad Viragh . A year later he was allowed to work as a cameraman at Viragh's side for the costume fabric " Nanon " by Hanns Schwarz for the first time. Scheib's following films were mostly simple entertainment productions, only the Thérèse Raquin adaptation You shouldn't commit adultery! directed by Jacques Feyder showed artistic ambitions. During those years Scheib also cooperated with experienced colleagues from Scandinavia such as Axel Graatkjær and Frederik Fuglsang . Since the beginning of the talkie era, Hans Scheib initially concentrated on documentaries; There is evidence of a trip by the Berliner to the United States in June 1937, and one to Norway in the following year.

Also in 1938 he arrived in Spain, which at the time was badly affected by the civil war. There, over the next ten years, Hans Scheib found employment as a cameraman for both feature films and short documentaries. In 1949 he largely withdrew from working as a cameraman. Hans Scheib founded his own company and organized the import and export of domestic and foreign cinema productions as a film salesman. In the early 50s he also worked as a consultant and cameraman in the production of short documentaries for the Innsbruck production company 'Wieser Film'.
