Hans Scheumann (* 1939 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Scheumann was successful in athletics as a long-distance runner: Starting for the SC DHfK Leipzig , he won the international cross-country championship in Czechoslovakia and between 1961 and 1965 in Rötha five times in a row the "Around the reservoir".

After completing his studies, Scheumann wrote his doctoral thesis at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig , which he completed in 1972 and which was entitled “Investigations into the rationalization of management training and further education in the field of basic tourism training at the German University for Physical Culture Leipzig " wore. In the 1970s he also dealt with the sport of mountaineering , among other things, and in 1975, together with Wolfram Kind and Hans Panhotsch, brought out the book “Mountaineering: a textbook for trainers and active people”. 1984 followed the PhD B at the DHfK, Scheumann's topic was "On problems of performance prognoses / performance structure from the point of view of the sport group endurance: a contribution to the" theory and methodology of the training of the sport group endurance ". In 1989 and 1990 he was at the DHfK worked as a professor for theory and methodology of endurance sports and held the office of prorector.

Scheumann was involved in the 1980s as a co-author of several publications on the subject of speed skating , including "Speed Skating - Special Training" in 1987 and "Selected Contributions to Theory and Methodology of Speed Skating" in 1989. He also dealt with the sport in this sport Evaluation of the results of child and youth spartakiads. During the unification of the two German states in 1990, shortly before the decision of the Saxon state government to close the DHfK, Scheumann worked on a new educational concept for the university. In addition to speed skating, endurance sports were one of Scheumann's main research areas, such as triathlon , athletics, cycling and swimming .

From 1992 onwards, Scheumann set up a rehabilitation facility together with representatives from medicine and psychology in Braunlage (Harz) based on a new active concept, which especially addressed people in early retirement (a burning problem at the time) and the elderly. During this successful period of work, further gerontologically-oriented insights into the targeted application of exercise and sports activities for the development and further maintenance of everyday skills and for active leisure activities in the second half of life emerged (see articles below: " Gerontologically oriented prevention / health promotion" ).

From the mid-1990s, Scheumann was head of the Wolfsburg Institute for Health Promotion. He turned to the subject of “Sport in Old Age” and in 2001 brought the book “Fit and vital. For a lifetime ”and in 2003 the book“ Walking, walking, jogging: a lifetime ”.
