Hans Schmid (born June 24, 1948 ) is a former Swiss ski jumper .

Career

The Mümliswil ski jumper began jumping on self-made jumps when he was eight. The model was his cousin Heribert Schmid, who also became Swiss champion. With the Four Hills Tournament 1966/67 Hans Schmid made his international debut. However, in the first few years he did not make it to the top.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Štrbské Pleso Schmid reached 10th place on the large hill. After jumping on 80 and 77 meters on the normal hill, he finished 16th.

Schmid was at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo in fifth place after the first run, but was hindered in the second run by a gust of wind and missed the medal ranks.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1974 in Sweden's Falun he repeated his position in 1970 and was again 10th on the large hill. Shortly afterwards he managed to improve his performance on the normal hill, so that he ended up in eighth place.

Between 1968 and 1975 he was Swiss champion five times and won the SSV jumpers' tour twice. In the Four Hills Tournament , he finished second and third and was fourth overall twice. In 1973 he won jumping on the Holmenkollbakken in Oslo .

He ended his active career in 1977 after two broken legs. Schmid is married and has three children.
