Hans Schneider (biologist)

Hans Schneider (born January 18, 1929 in Mensengesäß ) is a German zoologist who was director of the Zoological Institute of the University of Bonn .

Schneider received his doctorate in 1956 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (on the endosymbiosis of beetles), initially researched in Tübingen, where he completed his habilitation in 1963, and from 1970 was an adjunct and later full professor and head of the Zoological Institute of the University of Bonn in Poppelsdorfer Closed what he stayed until 1991.

The focus of his research is on bioacoustics (sound generation, communication, etc.) of frogs , after he initially dealt with sound generation from fish in the 1960s. In 1984, together with his Greek colleagues, he described the Epirus water frog ( Pelophylax epeiroticus or Rana epeirotica ) from western Greece and southern Albania .

1985/86 he was President of the German Zoological Society .
