Hans Sperlich (painter)
Hans Sperlich (born November 21, 1847 in Jägerndorf , † 1931 in Würzburg ) was a German painter and photographer.
Sperlich was initially trained as a photographer. From October 26, 1883 he studied painting at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Carl Theodor von Piloty and Wilhelm von Lindenschmit the Younger and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Joseph von Führich .
In 1885, Sperlich moved to Würzburg, his wife's hometown. He moved into the apartment on Haugerkirchplatz and set up a photographer's studio on Mainkai.
At first he worked as a landscape and interior painter, later mainly as a portrait painter. Sperlich created ceiling paintings in the Marienkapelle zu Schlüsselfeld and in the Franconian Luitpold Museum in Würzburg , as well as wall paintings in the Gasthof zum Schwan in Sommerach . He also founded a private painting school.
In addition to his own works, he dealt with copying old paintings, such as Raphael's “ Madonna della Sedina ” (1513) or the portrait of Ignaz Gropp (1740).
He held the post of chairman of the Würzburger Kunstverein and also artistically arranged the Würzburg pageants.
