Hans Strutz

Hans Strutz (born November 20, 1926 in Köslin ; † April 24, 2019 in Schwerin ) is a German museologist and former director of the Schwerin State Museum .

Hans Strutz came from a working-class family. After attending elementary school , he trained with the city ​​administration of Köslin. In 1944/45 he served in the Reich Labor Service and in the Wehrmacht .

The family came to Schwerin as refugees. Here Hans Strutz joined the SED in 1946 . From 1947 he was “active in various state and social institutions in the cultural field”. The party made it possible for him to study at the Institute for Social Science at the Central Committee of the SED . In 1969, he was here with a dissertation to cultural and political importance of the relationship between freedom and art in the socialist society of the GDR to Dr. phil. PhD.

In 1974 he was appointed director of the Schwerin State Museum. He was responsible for a number of inventory catalogs and expanded exhibition activities. During his tenure, the State Museum was given a new structure in 1985. In addition to the historic building at the Alter Garten , the museum was now also responsible for the Schwerin , Güstrow and Ludwigslust palaces and their parks and gardens.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Strutz was retired.
