Hans Tödter

Hans Tödter (born July 7, 1982 - February 5, 2019 ) was a German deaf athlete in tennis .

Career

Hans Tödter learned the profession of painter and worked in the municipal building yard of the city of Knittlingen . He was deaf from birth. From a young age he was enthusiastic about tennis and became a member of TV Mühlacker. There his talent was soon discovered, so that he was included in the squad of the national team. At the Deaflympics 2013 in Sofia he and his partner Urs Breitenberger won the gold medal in the men's doubles against the favored French and reigning European champions Mikael Laurant and Vincent Novelli in three sets 7: 6 (8: 6), 6: 4, 6: 4. Then he and Urs Breitenberger were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Gauck in 2013 . Hans Tödter also took part in the Deaflympics 2017 in Samsun in Turkey with his doubles partner Breitenberger. Only in the final did he and Breitenberger lose to their opponents and achieve the silver medal.

After a brief serious illness, Hans Tödter died in February 2019 at the age of 36.
