At his instigation, the Straelen growers' auction was founded, the first of its kind in Germany and from which today's horticultural cooperative Landgard emerged .

Life

Hans Tenhaeff was born as the youngest child of the master watchmaker and organist Theodor Tenhaeff and his wife Katharina Gertrud Tenhaeff. In 1910 he began his long-term commitment in the Straelen community and in professional associations by founding a fruit and horticultural association in Straelen. After his election to the municipal council in 1913, he first organized the local fruit and horticultural associations at the district level in order to deliver vegetables to the Ruhr area via a joint auction based on the Dutch model. As early as June 1914, there was a first German producer auction to improve sales for small producers. He led over the clubs in vegetable modern, intensive farming methods on by the real division between small farms about glass houses and initiated the establishment of the establishment for vegetable in Straelen, which now geographically largest gardening site. The success led to an expansion of agriculture and horticulture on the Lower Rhine combined with an expansion of the cooperative fruit and vegetable distribution, whereupon in 1922 he became chairman of the provincial association of commercial, fruit and vegetable growers for the Rhine province.

The Provincial Association of German Fruit and Vegetable Growers donated the Hans Tenhaeff Medal in 1983 to commemorate and honor Tenhaeff's special achievements. In Straelen, the street was named for the then auction hall and the horticultural center and vocational college in Hans-Tenhaeff-Straße.
