Hans Troschel the Younger , also Dreschell , Droschel , Drossel or similar (born September 21, 1585 in Nuremberg , † May 19, 1628 in Rome , Italy ) was a German compass maker and engraver .

life and work

He was the son of Hans Troschel the Elder. Ä. (1549–1612), a Nuremberg compass maker and sundial manufacturer well known in Germany at the time , and his second wife Barbara Krauss (1562–1632). Troschel married Ursula Glatzmann († 1634) from Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate on February 28, 1614 , with whom he had at least one son.

After Troschel had learned to make compasses and folding sundials from ivory from his father , he received additional training as a copper engraver from Peter Isselburg (1580-1630). According to his family name, his trade mark was the thrush .

Troschel's clocks and engravings are exhibits in the British Museum in London and in the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford .
