Hans Walch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Walch (* around / before 1550 in Giengen an der Brenz , † beginning of 1593 in Lauingen ) was a Swabian painter . By marrying Anna Brentel, he became the son-in-law of Georg Brentel and brother-in-law of David Brentel .

Life

It can be assumed that Hans Walch came to Lauingen to do a painting apprenticeship with Georg Brentel. He met his second eldest daughter Anna, who became his wife. They apparently married in 1573, because on April 14, 1573, Hans Walch, already as Georg Brentel's son-in-law, received the so-called stake citizenship (ie guest citizenship) for the first time for two years thanks to the recommendation of his hometown Giengen. In comparable cases, other painters were given permanent citizenship; Hans Walch evidently had concerns, presumably with regard to his financial security. The stake citizenship was then extended for a further three years. Only after he had inherited 70 fl from his mother-in-law did he receive permanent citizenship of Lauingen at the end of 1577 or beginning of 1578 for a fee of 5 fl.

Hans Walch lived in one of the houses across from the Schuel . His tax payments were quite low, peaking in 1589 (1 10 ß ), and in the years 1590–92 they fell again to an extremely low level (10 ß). That could indicate a protracted illness as Walch was in his prime. When he died in early 1593, he was heavily in debt. On July 27, 1593, Otto Lautenschlager (presumably the later father-in-law of Georg Brentel the Younger ) and his brother-in-law David Brentel agreed that his house could be sold to Schäffler Peter Nadler to cover the debts . Apparently his widow was not allowed to do such business alone.

More details about his work are not known.
