Hans Willam
Hans Willam ( Johannes Willam ; born February 20, 1702 in Au (Vorarlberg) , † February 15, 1784 in St. Peter (Upper Black Forest) ) was a bricklayer, palier and architect and a member of the Auer Guild , an association of builders and builders the Bregenz Forest in Vorarlberg . After the Moosbrugger and Beer families , the Willam family is named third most frequently in the Auer Guild documents, namely 515 times, and counted 32 masters. Of these, Hans was the most important ("Hans Willam VI" after Norbert Lieb - there were at least eight of these names).
He found his first demonstrable place of work in St. Peter's Monastery in the Black Forest . When Peter Thumb , also from the Auer Zunft, under Abbot Ulrich Bürgi (Abbot from 1719 to 1739) took over the management of the new building there in 1724, he made Hans Willam his palier in 1732. The collaboration between the two continued when - after a break in construction under Abbot Benedikt II. Wülberz (1739–1749) - Abbot Philipp Jakob Steyrer (1749–1795) began building the building in 1750. In 1739 the convent signed Willam as master builder. He worked partly under Thumb, partly independently when Thumb could not assign him a job. “Just as reliable and loyal as the 'Architectus', who lived with his family in a St. Peter's office building and had St. Peter's citizenship, were the bricklayers from Bregenz. No sooner had spring arrived on the Black Forest heights than they came from their home to new work, in order to return to their families in autumn. ... They were often guests at the convent table. ”In the Menologium Sancti Petri , Willam received an honorable obituary. His only son became a monk in the monastery.
In addition to the monastery, Willam contributed to the following buildings:
- St. Ulrich priory church in the Black Forest , smaller work, 1742;
- Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul in Freiburg-Kappel , independent work, 1746–1747;
- Priory Church of St. Fides and Markus in Sölden (Black Forest) , redesign, 1752;
- Zehntscheuer, wine press and parsonage of the Protestant parish Schallstadt-Wolfenweiler , independent work, 1759 to 1759;
- Jakobuskapelle in Stegen-Eschbach , independent service, 1758, no longer available;
- Jakobuskapelle in the cemetery of Oberrimsingen , independent achievement, 1959;
- Pilgrimage church on the Lindenberg in St. Peter (Upper Black Forest) , independent service, 1761; the church was demolished in 1787, and the parish church of St. Jakobus (Stegen-Eschbach) was rebuilt from the demolition material in 1789–1790 ;
- Parish Church of St. Nikolaus in Waldau , independent work, 1762;
- Tower of the priory church St. Ulrich in the Black Forest, independent service, 1763 to 1765; previously the church had only one roof turret, which was then attached to the Sölden church.
