Hans von Assig (born March 8, 1650 in Breslau ; † August 5, 1694 ) was a German poet lawyer .

Life

Hans von Assig was born as the son of the Breslau city lawyer Andreas von Assig and studied law in Leipzig . 1674–76 he took part in several naval battles of the Swedish-Danish war as a "Commandeur-Lieutenant" on the Swedish side . After the death of his father, he returned to Breslau in 1676. Because he did not get a public job here - presumably for religious reasons - he went to Kurbrandenburg and became captain and chamber director of the Schwiebusser Kreis in 1692 .

meaning

In 19th century German studies, Assig was counted as part of the (fictitious) " second Silesian school ", from which, however, he stood out in that he mainly wrote sacred poems, only a small number of which were published posthumously. " Herr Hannß von Assig etc. collected writings etc. Breslau bey Michael Hubert 1719 " contain a smaller number of sacred songs, only a few of which were included in the hymn books of Lutheran regional churches, funeral and other occasional poems, but above all prosaic funeral speeches.
