Haplochrois is a genus of butterflies from the family of grass miners (Elchistidae). The species are often assigned to the genus Coleophora .

features

The antennae are slightly shorter than the fore wings. The labial palps are slender and angled upwards. The forewings are very narrow and lanceolate, smooth and often without drawing. The hind wings are only half as wide as the forewings. They are straight and very pointed.

In the male, the uncus consists of two rounded and partially connected lobes. The tegumen is very long and narrow and about three times as long as the uncus. It has a rounded indentation on the front edge. The Gnathos arms are short and curved, they end in round bubbles covered with rows of spines. The valves are broad and short, rounded or almost rectangular and membranous. The anellus has a complex sclerotization. The size of the anellus lobes is variable, they are shield-shaped, rounded or elongated and provided with spines of various sizes and arrangements. The vinculum is wide and has a long and narrow rod-shaped saccus. The aedeagus is tubular, straight or curved, and has an oval endotheca . Cornuti are not available.

The apophyses are very short in females. The apophyses posteriores are three to six times longer than the apophyses anteriores. The latter are often curved. The genital plate has a sclerotized curved, variously shaped edge and is sometimes divided in the middle. The antrum is only weakly developed. The ductus bursae is very long and narrow. It becomes somewhat wider to the corpus bursae and is coiled. The corpus bursae is small, rounded or oval and has a more or less funnel-shaped sign. The shape of the genital plate and the sign are important for the determination.

distribution

The genus has a mainly pantropical distribution, only a few species are native to the south of the temperate climatic zone.

biology

The biology of only a few species is known. The caterpillars in the first stages are leaf miners, later stages drill into the shoots.

Systematics

The type species of the genus is Haplochrois chlorometalla Meyrick , 1897.
