The Harding Icefield is a large glacier area in the Kenai Mountains on the Kenai Peninsula in the US state of Alaska .
The southeastern part of the ice cap is in the Kenai Fjords National Park , the northwest in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge . The Icefield was named after the US President Warren G. Harding .
The glacier area covers an area of over 780 km². Together with the 32 glaciers, whose nutrient area is the Harding Icefield, the area is 1770 km². The Exit , Kachemak , Bear , Aialik and Tustumena glaciers have their origins here. Eight of the Icefield's glaciers flow into fjords of the Gulf of Alaska .
Only the peaks of the mountains of the Kenai Mountains protrude like islands from the inland ice mass. These rocks surrounded by ice are called " nunatakker " in glaciology .
