Harilla Papajorgji (born October 11, 1933 in Vlora ; † September 7, 2019 in Tirana ) was an Albanian politician and professor of economics. From 1982 to 1985 he was chairman of the state planning commission, from 1982 to 1987 a member of the people's assembly and from 1985 to 1991 deputy director of the Scientific Institute of the Central Party Committee .

Life and study

Harilla Papajorgji was born on October 11, 1933. He spent his childhood in Vlora . After the Second World War Papajorgji studied at the commercial and economic school in Vlora and finished his training in 1956 at the Institute for Economics in Tirana . He was among the first graduates of the educational institution to be appointed lecturers at the newly established Faculty of Economics at the University of Tirana in 1956 . He received in 1972 the title of Scientific employees , in 1982 he became the doctor doctorate , and in 1986 he received the habilitation professor.

Political career

After completing his studies in 1956, Papajorgji worked as a full-time professor at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tirana until 1964. He was a member of the Faculty's Scientific Council until 1991. In 1964 he was appointed First Youth Secretary of Tirana of the Labor Party and worked from 1969 to 1981 at the Scientific Institute of the Central Party Committee. From 1982 to 1985 he was chairman of the state planning commission. In 1982 he was elected a member of the People's Assembly, to which he belonged until 1987. For health reasons, he resigned from the position of chairman and was appointed vice director of the Scientific Institute of the Central Party Committee.

Harilla Papajorgji has authored numerous monographs and university textbooks, and has co-authored scientific studies, research articles, and procedural books. Some of his books have been translated into English, French, Russian and Greek.

Honors, awards and prizes

Harilla Papajorgji received the First Prize of the Republic of Albania in 1989 for his study of demographic and family developments, improvements in the economy of central planning and social problems of the time.
