history

The harmonic drive gears manufactured by the company were developed in 1955 by Walton Musser on behalf of NASA .

The company was founded as Harmonic Drive System GmbH in Langen in 1970. In 1988 the company was relocated to Limburg an der Lahn , as the previous premises could no longer meet the requirements. The company was renamed Harmonic Drive Antriebstechnik GmbH in 1994. In 1998, extensive investments were made in the latest CNC machine tools , special tools, testing machines and test equipment for the development and manufacture of Harmonic Drive gears at the Limburg location. In addition to complete drive systems and customer-specific system solutions, gearboxes and special drives for the European market could be developed and manufactured from then on. The conversion to a stock corporation took place in 1999. Products

Installation kits

The installation kits are available in different series and in numerous sizes.

Units

Harmonic Drive Units consist of an installation kit combined with a tilt-resistant output bearing. They thus represent gear units that are intended for integration in machines.

Gear boxes

In harmonic drive gear boxes, an installation kit is combined in a housing with an output flange or an output shaft.

Planetary gear

For the reduction range of less than 30: 1, the Harmonic planetary gears are available in different designs and different accuracy classes.

Servo motors, drives and controllers

Harmonic drive servo drives are a combination of precision gears with specially matched motors in AC or DC technology. They are designed for applications with high demands on torque capacity, precision and compactness. The delivery program is supplemented by the fully digital servo controller. The motor installation kits are manufactured according to customer specifications with sensors for position, speed, acceleration and torque and offer the option of integration into the machine environment.

Special drives

Special drives are offered in different configurations for rotary and linear movements.

Applications

Special areas of application are robotics , the engineering , the aviation and aerospace as well as the semiconductor technology and medical technology . The gearboxes from Harmonic Drive SE were used on the Mars probes Spirit and Opportunity . Harmonic Drive products are also installed on board the Airbus A380 and the entire Airbus family. Further areas of application are machine tools , packaging and printing machines as well as measuring , glass and woodworking machines. In the Telecommunications also harmonic drive products are used.
