Harold Adamson

Harold Campbell Adamson (born December 10, 1906 in Greenville , New Jersey , † August 17, 1980 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American songwriter , film composer and songwriter .

Life

Adamson grew up in New York , where he completed his school education. He later attended the University of Kansas and Harvard University . During his time at the University of Kansas he wrote his first songs and after graduating he pursued a career as a songwriter . In 1930 he worked for the first time on Broadway , where Vincent Youman's compositions for the musical Smiles contributed the lyrics. The following year he worked with Jimmy McHugh and Burton Lane on two other Broadway productions. In 1933 Adamson left Broadway after receiving a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer . Between 1937 and 1958 he was nominated five times for the best song for the Oscar , the first time in 1937 for the title Did I Remember from the film drama Suzy with Jean Harlow and Cary Grant in the leading roles , written together with Walter Donaldson . In addition to his main work as a lyricist, he also composed occasionally, including the theme music for the television series Wyatt Earp intervenes . Even after his death in 1980, filmmakers enjoyed using his compositions, such as Around The World in Good Morning, Vietnam , An Affair to Remember in Sleepless in Seattle and How do I get rid of him - in 10 days? and It's A Wonderful World in The Bridges on the River .

Adamson was married to stage actress Gretchen Davidson from 1948 until his death in 1980.
