Harold Carter

Harold Carter (born April 14, 1925 in Neath , Glamorgan ; † November 30, 2017 ) was a Welsh human geographer and "Gregynog Professor of Human Geography" at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth .

Harold Carter became a research assistant in Aberystwyth in 1950 and was given the Gregynog Professorship for Human Geography in 1969 , which he held until 1983. In the three following years he still held the position of director of the department of geography until he retired in 1986. He is also known as a language expert on Welsh and published A Geography of the Welsh Language from 1961-1991 in 1994 .

In 1977 he published four theories of urban development in his book The Study of Urban Geography . In 2011 he was inducted into the Learned Society of Wales .
