Harold Cromer

Harold Cromer (born January 22, 1921 in New York ; † June 8, 2013 ) was an American tap dancer and choreographer , also known as "Stumpy" from the comic tap dance duo "Stump and Stumpy".

Life

Harold Cromer had no formal training, but learned his stage skills autodidactically . He worked alongside Ethel Merman, Bert Lahr and Betty Grable in the Broadway hit Du Barry was a Lady . After working on Broadway, Cromer moved to the vaudeville stages, where he developed and expanded his tap dance skills; that earned him a role on the Ronald Reagan musical This is the Army . He became known for his appearances on Moke and Poke and Stump and Stumpy . Cromer has appeared on The Greatest Show of Stars , where he has worked with Chubby Checker , Fats Domino , Duane Eddy , Frankie Avalon, and other personalities. He returned to Broadway in 1978 with the show The American Dance Machine . With this show, Harold also completed a successful international tour.
