Harold Joseph Connolly
Harold Joseph Connolly (born September 8, 1901 in Sydney , Nova Scotia , † May 17, 1980 ) was a Canadian journalist and 1954 Liberal Prime Minister of the Province of Nova Scotia.
Life
He began his career at the Halifax Chronicle before moving to the Toronto Daily Star as Editor-in-Chief . In 1936 he was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Representatives and in 1941 Minister. When the incumbent prime minister of the province, Angus Lewis Macdonald , died in 1954, Connolly took over this office and the transitional chairmanship of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party . As a Catholic, he faced a front of Protestant delegates at the party congress and missed re-election. In 1955 he ended his engagement in provincial politics when he was appointed to the Senate of Canada . He held this office until 1979.
