Nova Scotia House of Representatives
The House of Representatives of Nova Scotia (English Nova Scotia House of Assembly , French Chambre d'Assemblée de la Nouvelle-Écosse ) is the legislature of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia . The House of Representatives, which has existed since 1758, is Canada's oldest parliament. It meets at the Province House in Halifax .
The House of Representatives has 51 members in as many constituencies for the majority system to be selected. The leader of the majority party is also the prime minister and heads the government known as the executive council (French conseil exécutif ).
The three main tasks of the House of Representatives are to pass new laws, approve the state budget and control the government. From 1758 to 1928 the province had a bicameral parliament.
