Harold Lockwood (born April 12, 1887 in Newark , New Jersey , †  October 19, 1918 in New York ) was an American actor of the early silent film era .

Life

Lockwood became one of the most popular actors of his time through appearances such as in the film David Harum (1915) directed by Allan Dwan . Together with May Allison he formed one of the first romantic film duos. During the First World War , Allison and Lockwood played together in around 25 other films. Despite rumors to the contrary, the two never had an affair with each other. Lockwood was one of those silent film greats who made a guest appearance in the masterpiece of silent film director David Wark Griffith , Intolerance (1916). His fellow actors in other films have included Mary Pickford , Wallace Reid , Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Robert Harron .

In October 1918, Lockwood died at the age of 31 from the Spanish flu , which occurred in the United States until the early 1920s and claimed around 50 million lives worldwide; his grave is in Woodlawn Cemetery in the New York borough of Bronx .
