Harry C. Jackson

Harry Cook Jackson (born July 23, 1915 in Columbus , Georgia , † February 12, 2000 ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Life

Jackson studied at Auburn University , where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering . Jackson was now working as an engineer. He was also admitted to the bar in 1952.

From 1961 he was a member of the Georgia Senate for 12 years . During this time he held the post of pro tempore president there for two legislative terms. In 1974 he ran unsuccessfully for a nomination as a Democratic candidate in the upcoming election of the governor of Georgia. In August 1978 he again took part in a Democratic primary , this time to run a candidate for the upcoming mayoral election in Columbus, Georgia, ousting his party colleague Jack P. Mickle , who had sought to run for a second four-year term. After Jackson was also able to decide the subsequent mayoral election for himself, he held the office from 1979 to 1982. Jackson was from 1985 a member of the board of directors of the Georgia Ports Authority and was elected chairman in September 1994.
