Harry Clifford Northcott

Harry Clifford Northcott (born October 16, 1890 in Exeter , Ontario , Canada , † July 18, 1976 ) was an American Methodist clergyman and bishop .

Life

Shortly after he was born, his parents, James Harvey Northcott and Emily nee. Patey, from Canada to the USA in 1890. He studied at Northwestern University , where he received an MA in 1919 , also at the Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston , Illinois , where he was in 1921 Bachelor of theology . In 1929 he received his doctorate in theology from Illinois Wesleyan University .

From 1917 to 1918 he worked as a pastor in a Methodist church in Elmhurst , Illinois. In 1919 he became the pastor of the Methodist Church ordained . From 1919 to 1921 he was assistant preacher in Chicago, then to 1923 pastor of Parkside Church in Chicago and from 1928 to 1948 pastor in Champaign .

In July 1948 he was introduced to Indianapolis as Bishop of the Methodist Church (a predecessor church of the United Methodist Church ) and was bishop for the Wisconsin District until 1960 . He was chairman of the Commission for the Diaconal Work of the Methodist Church and a member of the Commission for Pastoral Care.

On June 14, 1917, he married Florence Engle. The marriage had a daughter.
